The Chapel of Our Savior is one of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement’s little treasures. Located on the Westgate Mall in Brockton, MA, the Chapel has been ministering to people in the area since 1961. Young and old come to the chapel to be nourished by the sacraments, attend daily masses and confessions and to visit the chapel’s gift center.
There are two daily masses, with confessions preceding each mass, Tuesday through Saturday. This pastoral ministry is really the chief ministry of the friars here in Brockton, as people from all walks of life come to us seeking spiritual nourishment and reconciliation, so as to have a closer walk with the Lord.
A new prayer garden is located behind the Chapel, with statues and benches, the Stations of the Cross, and decorated with shrubs and flowers donated by our generous benefactors. Even in the cold weather, some patrons sit in their cars in front of the garden in order to benefit from its serenity.
When asked what he thought was the main reason people continued to come to the chapel, Bro. Thomas replied, "The Chapel of Our Savior provides a respite from the busy world of commerce. We are open all day, we know most of the people by name, and we extend a warm welcome to all those who come to us." It is a place to contemplate and reflect. Some would call it an oasis of prayer away from the noisy world. All are welcome in this place!
